Yesterday, Canonical released a brand new version of their operating system. It was codenamed Saucy Salamander and shipped as Ubuntu 13.10.

13.10 was a milestone release because it was the first to include a desktop, server, tablet, and smartphone version of Ubuntu. Sure, the mobile versions are still very early developments and only really work well on Nexus hardware, but it’s a start and mobile will now form a core part of every Ubuntu release going forward.

While some of us are enjoying their brand-new Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) operating system, Canonical’s attention turns to Long Term Support release that is 14.04.

Mark Shuttleworth has announced the codename for the next Ubuntu release 14.04 LTS “Trusty Tahr

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will be officially released on April 17, 2014 and will keep the same release schedule as the current Ubuntu releases.
